Featured research project
The Global Learning for Africa (GLA) research project was undertaken as part of the 2025 inaugural edition of the UNESCO Youth for Peace: Intercultural Leadership Programme.
The project examined the extent to which global citizenship themes are reflected in Ghana's secondary school curriculum, with the wider aim of informing a curriculum framework for teaching intercultural and global competence in African schools.
Research engagement included teachers and students in selected secondary schools as well as curriculum developers from Ghana's National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NACCA). The study covered 10 schools across 9 municipalities in the Greater Accra Region, with 20 teachers participating in in-depth interviews, 140 students in focus groups, and 3 NACCA staff in one-to-one interviews.
Findings from the research helped inform the themes and pedagogies of the GLA curriculum framework.
