Who we are
Global learning, grounded in African educational contexts.
The Centre for Global Learning Africa (CGLA) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation specialising in academic research, pedagogical tools and continuing professional development training for teachers and schools within the broad fields of global learning and international education.
CGLA has developed the Global Learning for Africa (GLA) Pedagogy, a context-responsive framework that advances an African-centred and holistic approach to educational approaches including Global Citizenship Education, Education for Sustainable Development, Climate Change Education, Human Rights Education, Democratic Education, Peace Education, Intercultural Learning, Digital Citizenship, and Media and Information Literacy.
The centre was established in 2026, building on the founder's longstanding research and professional engagement in Global Citizenship Education and International Education, as well as participation in the inaugural 2025 UNESCO Youth for Peace: Intercultural Leadership Programme. Research undertaken through that programme in Ghana contributed to the development of the GLA pedagogical framework.
Our mission
To advance transformative education through research, training of teachers and the design of curriculum materials that equip African learners with the knowledge, competencies and values to address local and global challenges and contribute to a just, peaceful and sustainable world.
Our Team
Leadership
Simon Eten, PhD
Simon Eten (PhD) is a 2025 UNESCO Intercultural Young Leader. He completed a PhD at University College London, Institute of Education in the United Kingdom where he also served as an Honorary Senior Research Fellow and holds an Early Career Research Impact Fellowship
His academic and research interest spans across the fields of Global Citizenship Education and Internationalisation in Education, with a particular focus on how education systems in Africa can foster active (global) citizenship in young people. Simon has extensive research experience on Global Citizenship Education from the master’s to post-doctoral level where he led research activities in the UK for a European Research Council-funded international research project on young people’s understanding and appropriation of global citizenship across six countries.
Before pursuing research, Simon served as a subject teacher at the secondary school level in Ghana. He also worked in the non-for-profit sector as project/programme officer, where he led in the implementation of youth empowerment, community development projects as well as supported policy advocacy work on education.

Norbert Yaw Van-Dyck Segbedzi, Esq
Norbert Yaw Van-Dyck Segbedzi is a trained and qualified lawyer with LLB and LLM from the University of Ghana, and Professional Law Course (PLC) qualification from the Ghana School of Law. He also has an MBA (Human Resource) from Wisconsin University College. Norbert is currently a manager in charge of Recruitment, Selection and Salary Administration at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GEAC).
